New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1988. Stated First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine / Very Good Plus. Octavo, 9.25 in. x 6 in., pp. 485. Signed in blue ink by the author on the front free endpaper. Ochre paper boards over dark blue cloth-covered spine. GIlt title to spine. Title page hand-corrected in ink from "(a novel)" to "(an honest novel)". Light age-toning to dustjacket. Protected in mylar. First issue dustjacket, with the errors "mist" for "myth" and "$19.95" on the front flap, and "Mickey" for "Becky" on the rear flap.

Edward Paul Abbey (January 29, 1927 - March 14, 1989) was an American author and essayist noted for his advocacy of environmental issues, criticism of public land policies, and anarchist political views. "The Fool's Progress" was his final novel.
