About This Item

First edition.

One of the 20 copies printed on Japon (n°9).

The copy is exceptionally enriched with a large original monochrome drawing (155 x 225, graphite and pastel), inscribed in the lower right corner " to Monsieur Rançon, souvenir of Fortifs, Jodelet ".

9 colour plates, all justified and signed by the artist.

As disciple of Bernard Naudin and Charles Guérin, Charles-Emmanuel Jodelet first started working as an engraver and lithographer in Dole, in his native Jura, before coming to Paris to follow Bernard Naudin's lessons. It is with Naudin that he perfected a characteristic trait, close to his teacher; like him, he will become a leading World War I illustrator, with numerous drawings and albums.

He was selected in several art galleries and excelled in the illustration of street scenes, dancers (we owe him several booklets on the Paris Opera and the "Petits rats" de l"Opéra) or circus arts, including those Forains, published in 1921, which are among his most beautiful works.

A RARE WORK, HERE IN HIS BEST ISSUE AND ENHANCED WITH AN ORIGINAL DRAWING
