New York: Pantheon Books, 1964. Hardcover. Edited by James Hastings Nichols. 8vo. Burgundy cloth with gilt spine lettering, price-clipped dust jacket. 382pp. Fine/very good. Jacket mildly age toned and spine a bit darkened, with minor edgewear only; encircled "H" inkstamped in red on front flyleaf. Handsome "New Edition" of these essays first published in 1943. Swiss art and cultural historian Burkhardt (1818-97) is mainly remembered for his writings about the Renaissance. Surprisingly uncommon with jacket.
