London : Macmillan and Co., Limited, 1912. Cloth. Good. 7.5" by 5.5". None. Two volumes of Maurice Hewlett's work. Both with a black and white Frontispiece. Maurice Henry Hewlett (18611923), was an English historical novelist, poet and essayist. He was born at Weybridge, the eldest son of Henry Gay Hewlett, of Shaw Hall, Addington, Kent. He was educated at the London International College, Spring Grove, Isleworth, and was called to the bar in 1891. He gave up the law after the success of Forest Lovers. From 1896 to 1901 he was Keeper of Lands, Revenues, Records and Enrolments, a government post as adviser on matters of medieval law. In decorated green cloth bindings with gilt title detailing to the front boards and spines. Externally, generally smart with light rubbing in places, bumping to the extremities, and a few marks to boards. The front hinge is tender on the Forest, and both hinges are strained on Harrow. Internally, the binding is strained in Forest, and tender in places in Harrow. The pages in both are generally bright and clean, with scattered spotting, and light foxing to the endpapers and publishers' advertisements at the rear. With closed tears to the publishers' advertisements in Harrow. Good
