About This Item

London : The Tallis Press, 1905. First edition. Cloth. Good. 7.5" by 5" . none . A captivating detective thriller in its first edition and first impression. Edgar Wallace was the British writer of the detective thriller The Four Just Men which follows four wealthy gentleman vigilantes who punish wrong-dooers who are beyond the reach of the law. The book was adapted into two films and a television series. This is the first edition first impression as it has the folding frontispiece and the detachable competition slip to the rear. In the publisher's original orange cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. There are some marks to the boards and the spine is faded and a little bumped. There is previous owner ink and bookseller stamp to the front free endpaper. The folding frontispiece is unbound but present. Internally, generally firmly bound. There are scattered spots as is common due to the paper used, mainly concentrated to the first few pages. Good

Synopsis

When the Foreign Secretary Sir Philip Ramon receives a threatening, greenish-grey letter signed FOUR JUST MEN, he remains determined to see his Aliens Extradition Bill made law. A device in the members' smokeroom and a sudden magnesium flash that could easily have been nitro-glycerine leave Scotland Yard baffled. Even Fleet Street cannot identify the illusive Manfred, Gonsalez, Pioccart and Thery - FOUR JUST MEN dedicated to punishing by death those whom conventional justice can not touch.
