OF THE FIRST EDITION OF FREDERICK'S FABLES, FIVE HUNDRED HAVE BEEN SPECIALLY BOUND. EACH COPY IS SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR AND NUMBERED. This copy is numbered 298. Introduction by Brunno Bettelheim. Born in Holland in 1910, Lionni lived in Italy until 1939 when he moved to the U.S. and worked in advertisng as an art & design director. The painter, art director, designer, a PhD in Economics and writer pursued a career in children's books after moving back to Italy in 1960 and was a four-time Caldecott Honor Winner for Inch by Inch (1961), Swimmy (1964), Frederick (1968), and Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse (1970). He died in 1999, at his home in Tuscany, Italy, at age 89. Fine green cloth boards in fine green cloth SLIPCASE. (xii) 132 pages. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
