Born in Holland in 1910, Lionni lived in Italy until 1939 when he moved to the U.S. and worked in advertisng as an art & design director. The painter, art director, designer, a PhD in Economics and writer pursued a career in children's books after moving back to Italy in 1960 and was a four-time Caldecott Honor Winner for Inch by Inch (1961), Swimmy (1964), Frederick (1968), and Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse (1970). He died in 1999, at his home in Tuscany, Italy, at age 89. Fine green cloth boards in fine green cloth SLIPCASE. (xii) 132 pages. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
