Fridtjof Nansen was a Norwegian arctic scientist who voyaged throughout the North and was one of the most famous polar explorers of the 19th-century. During the Fram Expedition, he encountered large Eskimo populations, learning from them and their nomadic tendencies in the New Siberian Islands, in search of the North Pole. Nansen made extensive records of this journey which were published under the title 'Farthest North'.
