"Since settling in South Africa, Mr. Clancey has travelled very extensively in his quest for birds, and in recent years has increasingly turned his attention to the elucidation of the rich bird fauna of Mocambique. As a recreation Mr. Clancey paints birds, working in both oils and gouache. His line drawing is highly thought of. He has assisted other ornithologists in the illustration of their works, and did line drawings for Witherby et alia, Handbook of British Birds, 1938-1945. The Gamebirds of South Africa is the author's third major contribution to our understanding of the birds of southern Africa published since 1964." .
