About This Item
New York Graphic Society, Boston, 1975. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. 127 pp., preface, select bibliography, index. Black and white frontispiece. Black and white photographs illustrate the text. Dark blue boards with gilt titles on spine. Signs of shelf wear evident on bottom of the book. Coloured photographic dustwrapper, protected, with white background and black titles on spine, black and white photograph on back panel. Rubbing and slight chipping to the top edge of the dustjacket, no other damage . as for the book itself, there is a small pale mark about 3 inches down on the 1st page of the book. Otherwise clean and without damage. Throughout Europe there are uncounted numbers of gargoyles and grotesques leering down from medieval churches. The reasons for this suggests the authors " stems directly from earlier Pagan beliefs which the church was unable - for its own safety - to fully eradicate, and so allowed to exist side-by-side with orthodox Christian images.". Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Architecture; Art; Religion -- Christianity; Art & Design.
