The very scarce 'corrected and enlarged' fourth edition of this work, published in 1700.The work of Laurence Echard, an English historian and clergyman who produced a number of such works, alongside a 'History of England' which was the standard such work at the time. Echard's name appears as 'Lawrence Eachard' to the title page, as called for.Echard provides an alphabetically arranged account of the cities, bishoprics, universities, dukedoms, kingdoms, provinces and counties of Europe, and an account of their longitudes and latitudes.The title page describes the work as 'of special use for the true understanding of all modern histories of Europe, as well as the present affairs'.ESTC reference number R217328With faint contemporary inscriptions to the front free endpaper and front pastedown, and the stamp of Cornwell House to the front free endpaper.A very scarce early edition of Echard's work.
