'The Gentle Shepherd', first published in 1725, is a pastoral comedy and is a pleasant delineation of rustic manners in the countryside of the Scottish Lowlands in the 18th century. Ramsay was a poet, playwright, publisher, and librarian. His most popular work 'The Gentle Shepherd' has had numerous reprints. In a calf binding. Externally, a trifle rubbed with wear to extremities and head and tail of spine. Front board is detached, while rear board is held by cords only. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
