About This Item

Dawsons of Pall Mall, Folkestone, first UK edition, 1975. Cloth, 8vo,. xiv, 129 pp. From a contemporary review: "In the first part are twenty-four works published in Gissing's lifetime and in the second, a further fifteen published after his death. Each work is fully described - title-page transcription, collation, and binding details - and information is given of later editions issued in Gissing's lifetime (with one or two others such as the 1905 reissue of By the Ionian Sea). Extant manuscripts are described. For each work an account is given of its publication, often with summaries of royalties paid to Gissing. There are two appendices ; one is a summary of Gissing's revisions to his early work and the other a chronological list of Gissing's publications to 1905. Professor Collie has written an 8,000-word bio-bibhographical introduction and this, together with the detailed notes on the publication of each work, will make this book essential reading for scholars of Gissing and, indeed, for all concerned with later Victorian literature. Very Good in slightly faded dustwrapper.
