Paper wrappers, 212 pp. A direct continuation of "The German Terror in Belgium". Fold-out two-color map showing waves of invasion into France. 5 additional fold-out maps. Illustrated throughout with halftone photographs. An unusual Toynbee title, this is a detailed account of the invasion of France by the Germans in World War I: from Liege to Marne; between Namur and Verdun; the raid into Lorraine; and from Malines to Yser. Atrocities, rape, pillage, the murder of women, children and the elderly, pillaging and destruction of homes and farms. Toynbee quotes from eyewitness accounts of survivors. Light shelfwear and toning to wrappers. A very nice copy..
