About This Item
Parigi: Presso La Vedova Thieriot, 1855. Vellum. Very Good Indeed. 5" by 3.5". None. A smart vellum bound edition of Torquato Tasso's important epic poem, here in the original Latin. In a full vellum binding. In the original Italian.'Jerusalem Delivered' is an epic poem that was first published in Italian in 1581. The poem focuses on the First Crusade, led by Godfrey of Bouillon, in which Christians battled Muslims in order to take over Jerusalem. It's a romantic epic poem, written during the Italian Renaissance, and is largely mystified in it's telling of the real historical event, taking poetic liberties to make the event more exciting and readable. The poem was written by the Italian Torquato Tasso, who is best known for this poem. He remained to be one of the most widely read poets for a few hundred years after his death, which happened just a few days before he was due to the crowned by the Pope as the 'King of Poets'. In a full vellum binding. Externally, smart, with a few light marks and a little discolouration, as is usual with a vellum binding. A couple of small chips to the spine labels. Gift inscription to the recto of the front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with a few scattered spots and handling marks. Very Good Indeed
