About This Item
[Trappist, KY]: Abbey of Gethsemani, 1966. First edition. 4to, unpaginated. Photographs. Inscribed to May [Sarton] on the title page by a (perhaps former) monk at the abbey and dated in 1971. Publisher's cream cloth with gilt lettering in illustrated jacket. Near fine book in very good jacket with rubbing, fading, and edge wear.
Interesting association copy of this collection of photos from the Abbey of Gethsemani at Trappist, Kentucky, with text by Fr. Louis, or Thomas Merton. This copy from the library of May Sarton, and inscribed to her by a different Thomas:
"For my dearest May, This small token of affection to share with you a 'place of roots' in my life. I particularly share this with you since you are somewhat like a sister, having been in and out of Solitude yourself. My continuous best love, Thomas, Gethsemani, Kentucky."
