Carey & Hart, 1841. Hardcover. Good. The Gift (annual) for 1842, featuring the first-ever appearance of Edgar Allan Poe's 'Eleanora.' Black boards with titling and elaborate decoration in gilt; boards scuffed and edgeworn, frayed to corners, front outer hinge starting and rear outer hinge split at top 3.5 inches. Inner hinges strong; gutter cracked at page two, with the exposed threads of the binding secure; binding sound through text. Endsheets tanned, pencil markings to RFEP with bleedthrough to previous page. Pages bright, occasionally foxed; text else unmarked.
