George Newnes Limited, London, 1943. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Fair. Green coloured cloth covered boards with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with red and black coloured titles to the front panel and blue coloured titles to the back strip. The Cairstair Twins asked send to the boarding school, Greyladies, and are placed in the Lower Fourth. For one it was dreary and boring, for the other a happy event. It took a sailing adventure to turn things around. Softening, rubbing and a little fraying of the back strip edges and book corners. Rubbing and marking to the book panels with a hint of foxing also present. Cocking of the spine. Light browning and foxing of the text block edges and of the pages. The front hinge has cracked and the endpapers are somewhat foxed. The dustwrapper is in not great shape – please see photograph. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and back strip edges. There is a piece missing from the top left hand corner of the front panel and top right-hand corner of the rear panel. The front spine gutter hinge has strip 45 inches to the lower dustwrapper edge. Sunning and creasing of the back strip with creasing of the dustwrapper edges. Rubbing of the panels and there is some browning of the verso and slight foxing of the fold over panels.
