About This Item
London: Macmillan and Co., 1903. Cloth. Very Good. 7.5" by 5.5". Not Stated. A colourfully illustrated edition of Charles Kingsley's influential natural history work. The fifth edition, ninth impression of this work in the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Illustrated with eleven colour plates. Lacking the twelfth plate. Collated. Charles Kingsley, a noted board church priest of the Church of England, is best known for his works 'The Water-Babies' and 'Westward Ho!'. In this educational study, which explores the wonders found on the shore of England, he coined the word pteridomania. 6 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally fairly smart, wit shelf wear and a couple of faint marks to the boards, and darkening to the spine. Shelf wear to the extremities. Small loss to the front paste down. Internally, the binding is slightly strained to page 65, but otherwise firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the odd spot to the first and last few pages. Plates remain bright. Very Good
