About This Item
London: W. Griffin, 1768. Walton called Oliver Goldsmith (1730-1774) an "inspired idiot," certainly the greatest example of damning with faint praise that Quercus can think of. Whatever! The Anglo-Irish novelist/playwright may have been a hack, but several of his works ("She Stoops to Conquer," The Vicar of Wakefield") remain classics. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition. Extremely scarce; held by Trinity College Dublin only. The publisher calls this "A New Edition," and Quercus believes it to be in the Third State. Clean text; 76 pages; very bright and supple, a delight to read. This copy has been rebound in maroon pebbled leather with four bands on the spine. Lightly rubbed, and with a small ownership sticker on the rear paste-down. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Full-Leather. Near Fine/No Jacket.
