About This Item
Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1959. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Good. The author's first book, which won the National Book Award for Fiction. The title story was adapted for the 1969 film of the same title.
298 pages. First edition (first printing stated). This copy belonged to the Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award-winning author Larry McMurtry, and it has his distinctive horseshoe bookmark on the front pastedown. This is a good-only copy. The jacket flaps were once glued to the pastedowns and when they were removed, it tore the paper. The jacket flaps are reinforced on the back (verso) with brown paper. The jacket has a glue stain on the front panel and is chipped and split at the spine with somewhat amateurish repairs to the back. There is a remainder-like mark on the bottom edge. While not the prettiest copy, is does have an appealing provenance.
