Charles Gordon enshrined much of what the Victorians valued and his death at the hands of the Mahdi secured his place in history. Anthony Nutting quotes from Gordon's journal and his letters to his sister Augusta, to suggest a previously unconsidered motive for the often strange actions of this strange man. The boards and text block are square and tight There is a previous owners name on the front end-paper. the text block is also tanned, the dust jacket has wear to the edges, and small tears to the top and base of the spine.
