A smart limited edition set on the ancient history of Silchester, with illustrations throughout. Complete in two volumes. Limited to three hundred and fifty copies, of which this is number two hundred and twenty-two. A fascinating historical and archaeological exploration into the ancient history of Silchester, situated north of Basingstoke, Hampshire, known for its Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum. With commentary on the homes, baths, churches, coins, and pottery found at the site. Volume one is illustrated with frontispiece, one plate, and many full-page and in-text images. Volume two is illustrated with frontispiece, four plates, and many full-page and in-text images. Collated complete. Written by James Thomson, a British professor in history. In the original quarter brown cloth binding with brown cloth boards. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and rubbing to the extremities. Minor bumping. Light fading to the spine and the odd mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Light scattered spotting and minor age toning to the endpapers. Very Good
