New York: Charles Scribner's Sons,, 1935. The author's account of "an exciting hunting expedition in Africa" First edition, first printing. The book was published in October 1935 whilst Hemingway's text was being serialized in Scribner's Magazine between May and November 1935. The dust jacket is present as Grissom's "Jacket C", with the green band on the back panel not encroaching on the text of a shortened blurb. The green printing on the jacket is unusually bright and unfaded. Octavo. Original green cloth, spine lettered in gilt on black, spine decorations in gilt, front cover with facsimile of Hemingway's signature in gilt. With supplied dust jacket. Housed in a custom cloth folding box. Chapter headings and other decorations by Edward Shenton. Spine and extremities sunned; a very good copy. Price-clipped and slightly toned dust jacket frayed at extremities; a bright and vibrant example. Grissom A13.1.a; Hanneman A13.
Synopsis
Green Hills of Africa is a 1935 work of nonfiction written by Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway's second work of nonfiction, Green Hills of Africa is basically a journal of a month on safari he and his wife, Pauline Marie Pfeiffer, took in East Africa during December 1933. Green Hills of Africa is divided into four parts: Pursuit and Conversation, Pursuit Remembered, Pursuit and Failure, and Pursuit as Happiness, each of which plays a different role in the story.
