A Deluxe large color woodblock print, sheet size: 27.5 x 41.5, red artist Hanko [chop/seal & publisher's black seal, bright paper,a couple of very tiny spots, else excellent example. . FIRST EDITION . *** *** *** . . A LOVELY JAPANESE IKEBANA FLOWER ARRANGEMENT . . . COLOR WOODBLOCK PRINT BY THE MASTER ARTIST . . This is lovely Japanese woodblock color print, in a Deluxe large sheet size format. With a beautiful flower arrangement composition, in stunningly lavish color. . This shows a traditional Japanese flower arrangement in a bamboo basket. There are lovely white peonies, yellow and white chrysanthemums, a cluster of red & green grapes and a red Mexican salvia. There is a tender red-braided silk cord draped over the top of handle, with lovely tassels and a jade beads. . A single sprig of flowers adorns the lower right corner. This beautiful print demonstrates the great skill of artist with his Shibui and elegant taste. Ikebana taste in the Zen art of Ikenobo in flower arranging. . *** THE HANKO [SEALS/CHOPS]: The upper red Hanko is artists. Below that is the black publisher's reading "Han Gen Uchida" or "Original Woodblock Print from the Uchida studio." . *** THE UCHIDA ART GALLERY: The Uchida Art Gallery, which is still active, was founded in 1919 in Kyoto as the Uchida Bijutsu Shoshi [Uchida Art and Book Shop]. This art bookstore was also a print publisher specializing mostly in Shin-hanga and Ukiyo-e reprints. See Portland below. . NOTES FROM THE PUBLISHER: We have a copy of an Uchida essay about the Japanese woodblock prints he published. We post a photo of this as illus02.jpg to our website. This essay may also have been published in his catalog of Shin-Hanga. . In that essay, at the bottom of paragraph 4 he states about the various artists works he published: "...Kin'u Takeshita...are the leading contemporary artists of the present Japan." Although there is no date, it is probably from about 1930-1935. . *** WHO WAS TAKESHITA KIN'U: He was the honor student of HOGAI Kano, he was active in the 1930's-1950's. . *** CONDITION: The work is in excellent condition, clean, bright paper, a couple of very tiny spots, else a lovely copy. . *** THE SIZE: The print size is 39.2 x 25.5 cm. . *** REFERENCES: Portland Art Museum: UCHIDA ART CO.
