About This Item

London and Cambridge: Macmillan and Co. , 1862. First edition. Leather. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". none. The first edition of this handbook of fine art collections within the International Exhibition of 1862 by Francis Turner Palgrave in half calf Worsfold binding. First edition of Handbook to the Fine Art Collections in the International Exhibition of 1862 by Francis Turner Palgrave in half calf Wordfold signed binding. Sold within the building under the sanction of Her Majesty's Commissioners. This scarce handbook was a guide to the fine art within the 1862 International Exhibition, or the Great London Exhibition, the historically and culturally significant meeting place of art and culture from around the world in a nineteenth century colonial world fair. The exhibition featured over 28,000 exhibitors from thirty six countries. At the time it was visited by 6.1 million visitors from around the world. The handbook is by Victorian critic and poet Francis Turner Palgrave.  In Wordfold signed half calf binding. Externally, very smart. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities resulting in some slight wear to the leather. The hinges are starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with some occasional spotting. Very Good
