E. Claxton & Co.. Fair. 1883. 11th Edition. Leather Bound. All pages are present, pages clean and lightly yellowed. Binding is tight. Leather covers are extremely worn, front cover is attached to the text block by a single thread, spine is lacking pieces at head and foot. All edges heavily rubbed gilt, gilt on spine is bright. Full leather cover with extended rear cover formed a belt to slide through missing belt loop on front cover. The cracked flap is detached but present (see image) : a beautiful gilt vignette of two sides and front of a steam locomotive. The book could use a new binding. . Includes 324 pp + 70 additional pages of ads, reviews, Contents. This is a classic work on the early locomotive. An early printing, NOT a modern reprint. . 24mo 5" - 6" tall. 324 pages. F4 .
