Deep red cloth boards, gilt cover and spine titles, design, moderate shelf wear, bow, bump. Cover features gilt impressed titles w/gilt image of children in wonder of a talking snail w/black impressed borders. Spine features titles w/several gilt bands at head and heel, and, gilt emblem "B" for Boots. Pages generally very good; few of the b&w illustrations have been attractively watercolored. Frontispiece color plate match dj: "The bud opened into a full-blown flower, in the middle of which lay a beautiful child." Antiquarian signature pencilled in at endpaper: "D. Broadbent, 1930". Bind good; hinges intact. Scarce dust wrapper in matte red with mounted color plate of babe and stork, moderate edge wear, rub, adhesive; unclipped 15/-, protected in new clear sleeve. Spine features titles and decoration. Back panel and flaps feature classic adverts for Boots The Chemists pharmacies of which ad boasts there are over 900 in Great Britain. Beautifully illustrated by W. Heath Robinson with sixteen mounted color plates and glorious full and partial-page imagery and decoration throughout. Tales include: "The Marsh King's Daughter; Tommelise; The Snow Queen in Seven Parts; Elfin-Mount; The Little Mermaid; The Storks; The Nightingale; The Wild Swans; The Real Princess; The Red Shoes; The Emperor's New Clothes; The Swineherd; The Flying Trunk; The Leaping Match; The Shepherdess and the Chimney-Sweeper; The Ugly Duckling; and, The Naughty Boy."
