About This Item
New York; London, respectively: E.P. Dutton & Company; Produced by Carl Hentschel. 1st Edition presumed. Hardcover. Very Good. Aldin, Cecil. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. N.d., circa 1910 (date of inscription on FFEP). Very rare title with color, four tone generally, illustrations. Unpaginated, 40 pp including title. A potpourri of stories, poems, and humor. The first part is devoted to a quintessential Aldin subject of dogs and foxhunting entitled The Nursery Harriers: The Story of a Hunt, but with a difference inasmuch as the horse is a hobbyhorse. The final pages of the book are devoted to various children's games of the Middle Ages: bowls, tobogganing, skating, sliding, golf, quintain, cricket, football, etc. Also some illustrated nursery rhymes and snippets of other children's classics (Robinson Crusoe, Aladdin). Throughout delightful and less familiar Aldin illustrations, all 14 by 10 inches in size. Soilage on rear boards and to a lesser extent on front board. Blistering to endpapers. Otherwise tight and clean and very good if not better.
