New York: D. Appleton & Company, 1869. Book. Very good condition. Hardcover. Early edition. Octavo (8vo). 541 pages of text including an index. Hardcover binding: attractive brown leather spine and corners, with marbled paper-covered boards. Minor to moderate rubbing to extremities and hinges. Illustrated with over 100 in-text figures, and one fold-out plate. Previous owner's name on front endpaper "J. H. Kedzie" [John Hume Kedzie (1815-1903)] the author of "Solar Heat, Gravitation, and Sun Spots." There are a few pencil notations in text, presumably by Kedzie, such as underlining a sentence and stating "absurd.".
