Original colour printed wrappers. With colour illustrations a.o. photo-montages, throughout, all designed by Piet Zwart. (2), 49, (1 blank) pp. Interesting collection of promotional material designed by Dutch Constructivists. Ad 1: Educational book intended for youngsters, elaborating on how to use the Dutch Postal service (PTT) and telephone.
It is one of the most famous creations of Piet Zwart (1885-1977), one of the most versatile Dutch designers of the first part of the 20th- century. Next to being a photographer and typographer, he also designed the Bruynzeel Kitchen. From 1919 until 1933 he was a teacher at the art academy at Rotterdam.Ad 3: This promotional broadside was published on the occasion of the opening of the new building of the publishing house De Arbeiderspers at Hekelveld Amsterdam. Especially the title-page shows the use of the photomontage typical for the Dutch Constructivists.Ad 4 & 5:. Fine copy. Ad 1: Purvis & De Jong, Nederlands grafisch ontwerp van de negentiende eeuw tot nu, pp. 121-165, ill. pp. 164-165; Brentjens, Piet Zwart 1885-1977. Vormingenieur (2008), pp. 235-9. Rare in such fine condition.

L'estampe Originale, founded in 1978 by Sandra Sofris Dolmatch, MFA, is a private art and antiquarian book dealer devoted to the research and selling of fine original prints, drawings, paintings, and sculpture- old master, nineteenth and twentieth century. It is a small company based on the traditional European model, that is to say with a medium sized and varied inventory embracing both major artists and minor, expensive and inexpensive. The list of writers, publishers and artists represented in our inventory is numerous, the techniques include a variety of drawings, etchings, engravings, aquatints, mezzotints, dry points, lithography, woodcuts, wood engravings, screen prints and a selection of mixed media. Although we are by nature generalists in the field, we have particular strengths in 19th and 20th century prints, paintings, and rare books. Sandra has been a member of ABAA, CINOA and ILAB since 1980.
