Strong-willed heroine of the late 19th century. Arnold Bennett (1867-1931) began writing full-time in 1900 after publishing his first novel, A Man from the North, in 1898. He is best known today for his novel The Old Wives' Tale, published in 1908.
Bennett served as the director of propaganda for France at the Ministry of Information during World War I. He was later offered a knighthood for his service, which he declined.
Sequel to Clayhanger, this book runs chronologically parallel to it and follows Hilda's coming-of-age story.

Synopsis
The Clayhanger Family is a series of novels by Arnold Bennett, published between 1910 and 1918. Though the series is commonly referred to as a "trilogy", it consists of four books; the first three novels were released in one single volume as The Clayhanger Family in 1925.
