London: Printed by George Stafford, 1792 Book. Illus. by James Moore - G.J. Parkyns. Good. Hardcover. [viii], 120 pages + 60 sepia aquatint plates. Complete, only vol 1 was ever published. Plate of Montgomery Castle facing page 81 has a tear 2/3 of the way into it, there are old glue marks to the rear. Otherwise just a few marks and occasional stains. Bound in old paper covered boards, with the remains of a paper spine, the binding is starting to come loose in places. Page edges are utrimmed and consequently a bit dusty. Burke avoids any punches, calling Rousseau a man driven by vanity and lack of taste. Chides the leaders of the French Revolution for following Rousseau, thereby reversing the ideals of taste and grace, which are worthy of preservation, and combining them with aristocracy, the target of the French Revolution.

Octavo. Set in Monotype Bulmer on pure cotton Fabriano Tiepolo paper in an edition of 25 copies (this is no 6). Bound by hand in full leather with marbled boards, titles and decoration to spine gilt, marbled edges. Housed in a hand-made slipcase.

Full dark blue levant morocco bindings with fancy gilt turn ins, full bright gilt edges, decorative spine with gilt lozenge design, red leather labels in compartments between raised bands and bound by Holloway. Bookplate on endpaper. Minor brown blemishes to the colour plates and on the pages opposite. Wear to the joints on v.2, front joint is cracked down to the first compartment, otherwise are tender, covers are lightly rubbed with scattered dark blemishes and minor wear to the gilt edges, top corners on both volumes are slightly chipped and bumped.
