Binding is excellent with no tears or loose pages. Red cloth boards with gilt-stamped spines. Each volume states "first published" and the year. Each volume is about 400 pp. Octavo. Volume I: The BIrth of Britain: Clean and bright. Red painted top edge. Dust jacket has a tear on the front cover and wear to jacket at crown, and loss at top edge of rear panel of jacket.Volume II: The New World: Clean and bright. Red painted top edge. Dust jacket showing a 1.5" tear at top spine edge; pencil marking on jacket at spine.Volume III: The Age of Revolution: Hevay foxing to page edges and interior of book. Dust Jacket is price clipped, foxed on interior and has a crease on the spine of jacket. Jacket has minor loss at foot and tear at rear edge near crown. Volume IV: The Great Democracies: Clean and bright. Red painted top edge. Previous owner's name on first free endpaper. Minor loss to jacket at foot and crown, minor rubbing to foot on front corner. A history of Britain and its former colonies and possessions throughout the world, covering the period from Caesar's invasions of Britain (55 BC) to the beginning of the First World War (1914).
