Cadwallader Colden [1688 - 1776] was a physician, and natural scientist from Scotland eventually migrating to Philadelphia and entering politics, ultimately becoming lieutenant governor and acting Governor for the Province of New York. Content on the Iroquois tribes in the Colonial period in New York.
"One hundred and twenty-five copies octavo. Thirty copies imperial octavo." Includes bibliographical references. This is copy #9 initialed by the publisher. 3/4 red leather and marbled boards, gilt title on chambered spine. Imperial 8vo, xl introduction, xvii printed facsimile pages of the original 1727 NY edition, [1], 141 printed pages, portrait frontispiece. Edges rubbed, frontis and title page have tidemark, not affecting image. Otherwise clean. OCLC: 702669572 at Yale, OCLC: 869167288 at 5 Canadian libraries. Early owner's bookplate.
