Lawrence, KS: E. F. Caldwell. Fair with no dust jacket. 1895. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Covers motled with wear along edges, at corners, and spine ends. Several former owner's marks on front end page. Binding and pages are dry and slightly brittle with several pages begining to crack at spine . Text is toned with scattered foxing and dampstaining but is otherwise clean and free from marks. ; Presumed first state of first printing in maroon cloth. " This work is a history of Lawrence covering the period 1854 through the end of the Civil War in 1865. There are twenty-seven chapters. The author's portrait is the frontispiece with his facsimile signature below. A portrait of Amos Lawrence, for whom Lawrence, Kansas, is named, appears just after the table of contents and before the first chapter. There are other photographs of early settlers and illustrations relating to early Lawrence events. Cordley was born in England in 1829. His parents moved to the U. S. In 1850. Cordley came to Kansas in 1857. He remained in Kansas until 1875 when he returned to Michigan. In 1878 he returned to Kansas and spent six years as pastor of a church at Emporia. In 1884 he returned to Lawrence." -From David Dary's Kanzana; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 269 pages .
