London: Chatto & Windus, 1879-80. Leather. Very Good Indeed. 8.5" by 5.5". None. A very smart complete four volume set of McCarthy's history of our own time. Four volumes. A history spanning from the accession of Queen Victoria to the general election of 1880, with details of: science and speed, Chartism and young Ireland, the Exhibition in Hyde Park, the invasion of the Crimea, transportation, troubles in the East, the Reform agitation, Trades-Unions, and the anti-climax of Imperialism. Written by Justin McCarthy, an Irish nationalist, journalist, historian, novelist and politician. Bound in half calf with marbled boards, edges, and endpapers. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear only. Joint starting to the head of Volume I but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light spotting to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown. Very Good Indeed

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
