Published as a continuation of his Colonial and Revolutionary History of Upper South Carolina, Landrum's book is essentially a history of people and their connections. General history subjects covered include iron working, textiles, other manufactures, churches, schools, government, and politics. Included is the original 1790 Census for Spartanburg County and a list of all who served in the Civil War with the name of the battle for those killed or wounded. Over one hundred family sketches are included, most with photographs. Thousands of names of early and former Spartans are contained in this volume. A new index contains over 10,000 entries.
