Cambridge: John W Parker, 1841. Leather. Very Good. 9" by 6". None. Two uniformly calf bound volumes of the Bible, including the Testaments Old and New, alongside the Psalms of David An 1841 edition of the Holy Bible, bound in two full calf volumes and containing both the Old and New Testaments. With the 'Psalms of David in Metre' to the rear of each volume. The title page explains that this work is 'appointed to be read in Churches'.Both volumes bear the bookplate of Humphrey Ewing Crum-Ewing, a Scottish Liberal politician who sat in the house of commons from 1857 to 1874, to the front pastedown of both volumes. His inscription also appears to the verso of a front endpaper on each volume. Crum-Ewing, of Scottish Clan Ewing, was the owner of properties in the West Indies, chairman of the West Indian Association of Glasgow and a director of the Colonial Company of London.The bookseller's label of 'M. Ogle & Son, Glasgow' appears to the front pastedown of both volumes. In a full calf binding. Rubbing and marks to the boards, with minor loss to the leather. Rubbing to spines and front and rear joints. Small loss to the leather at head of spine of volume I, and tail of spine to volume II. Contemporary owner's bookplate and bookseller's label to each front pastedown. Contemporary owner's inscription at verso of front endpaper to each volume. Front hinge slightly strained to volume II, otherwise generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good
