About This Item

First Edition. 8vo., Brown cloth, slightly rubbed at the edges, a few scratches at the surface, with gilt lettering on the spine and front board. Bound with a forward lean and former owner's stamp at the edges and on the front endpaper, old glue on the rear endpaper with the publisher's advertising slip laid-in. Overall, a bright very good to near-fine copy. Gilman's critique of domestic home life for the women of her time, a criticism that contends that "the home has not developed in proportion to our other institutions, and by its rudimentary condition it arrests development in other lines.
