About This Item

San Francisco, CA: No Publisher. Very Good-. 1940. Hardcover. This is a homemade scrapbook (8 1/2" x 10") for a Softball team who played for the Southern Pacific Club Softball League - a league made up of different sections of the Southern Pacific Company based in San Francisco, CA . Included are three pages of mimeographed Rules, compiled by Fred Windemuller (Commissioner) , 1 mimeographed page setting up the championship and prize money for the league, 46 mimeographed pages of "Backlot Softball Bulletin, 4 typed pages of player names and box scores for the Auditor Freight Accounts team, two laid in pages of schedule for the 1939 season, 1 laid in "newsletter" style account of a game between married and single men (I'm assuming this is the same team) , a second newsletter (Southern Pacific Bulletin) with information on the winning team for Indoor Baseball, a team photo for the 1945 champions who were one the Auditor of Freight Accounts team (the person who made the scrapbook was on this team) , and two laid-in season schedules (professionally printed) for the 1940 and 1953 seasons, both with handwritten notations for winners, etc. The Backlot bulletins (newsletter which gives snapshots of games and a running standing of the teams against each other. "The Service Bureau lads took time out from their switchboards to journey to the backlot long enough to win their first game at the expense of the league leading Freight Claimers..." "Tealdi, Central Timekeeping right fielder presented the most amusing incident of the week when he hit a fair ball down the left field foul line but believing the ball to be foul, he neglected to run. After the team debated with him momentarily , he scampered to first to be safe by a wide margin. He advanced to second and third on two wild pitches only after the coaches on bended knee begged him to run. His only comment was "Imagine that." " (from the scrapbook) .
