About This Item
Budapest, Hungary: Alap Publishing Co.. Very Good. 1975. First Edition. Hardcover. Pictorial glossy hardcover. 10.25" X 8" 120pp. Foreword in German, English, French, and Russian by Zam Tibor. Aside from this foreword, the book is a photographic journey through the puszta now a National Park in Hungary. Szirmai uses her photography to draw the reader into a time and place of peace and beauty within the Hungarian Puszta (pusto), a temerate grassland of the Great Hungarian Plain. Using only black and white film she captured the natural environment and the people who live within this unique biome, their life, culture, and animal life. "The photographer first collected the motifs characteristic of old Hortobagy as if she were afraid to lose the last opportunities to do so. Her anxiety is partly justified. On the left bank of River Hortogaby next to the Nine-hole Bridge, there is a village today and all around farms have sprung up..." from the foreword. The book is slanted, and the edges and ends are lightly worn. .
