Octavo (21x14.5 cm). - [6], 362 pages. - Publisher's original embossed red cloth, title in gilt on spine; near fine. - SIGNED BY HEYM in ink (and with an additional private inscription). - Heym's first novel (Wilpert-Guhring II/2). - STEFAN HEYM [born Helmut Flieg (1913-2001)] fled to Czechoslovakia after the Reichstag fire in 1933, and then to the United States in 1935. In 1952, he returned to Czechoslovakia, and finally settled in East Germany.
