The Huse Journal: Santa Barbara in the 1850s by Charles Enoch Huse edited by Edith Bond Conley Translated by Francis Price, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Historical Society, 1977, 279pp., 8vo. First edition thus, 500 copies. Condition: Very Good+. Small owner's bookplate pasted inside front flyleaf. Huse lived in Santa Barbara from 1852 until he retired to spend his final years in the sanitarium in Napa, California in 1885. "Judge" Huse was an important contributor to the early history of Santa Barbara, California, and his diary is a frank and humane record of both his activities and impressions of the customs of his time.
