Hyperion 1990

First UK Edition of the first book of the Hyperion Cantos Duology signed by Simmons! (NOT book club, NOT x-lib) I have just acquired a Dan Simmons collection most of which are signed. If you're interested in other Simmons titles please peruse my listings!

Hyperion by Dan Simmons (author of Song of Kali, Fall of Hyperion, Carrion Comfort, Summer of Night, Endymion, Rise of Endymion, etc.) Hardcover First UK Edition - First Printing Headline UK 1990. (true first edition published by Doubleday US 1989 and later by Subterranean Press) Dust jacket art by Steve Crisp (?) Signed by Simmons on the title page.

Fine- in Fine-/Near Fine++ Price-Clipped Dust Jacket. Overall a very nice copy, appears to have NO discernible reading wear. The main shortcomings are the typical toning to the text-block, common with UK editions published circa 1980 to 2000, and nicks to the lower front corner, back upper corners. Still an above-average copy, and much less common signed because Simmons hasn't done many UK book tours if any.

Edition Note: The Hyperion Cantos Duology by Dan Simmons in its original hardcover first editions is perhaps in both production value and the story itself one of the best science fiction literature productions of all-time. That said, only 2000 copies of Hyperion were released in trade hardcover and 4000 copies of Fall of Hyperion by Doubleday, the balance as trade paperbacks. By the release of The Fall of Hyperion, Hyperion in its trade hardcover was already fetching $200+. Headline UK released this hardcover edition around the same time as the release of the US edition of Fall of Hyperion. The artwork for both editions (US and UK) is superior, and the book itself one of the masterpieces of science fiction so it seems strange that Doubleday opted for such a low run in hardcover, many copies going to libraries. I even heard later that some specialist booksellers in science fiction were trying to encourage Doubleday to do a second printing of Hyperion in hardcover because demand was very high, but they obviously declined. Subterranean Press would do a signed-limited edition in coffee-table size books which I don't believe are as good as these.

NOTE: All modern books with dust jackets come with dust jacket covers.
