Thick quarto, pp (6), (c.377), illustrated with 600 black and white plates, fore-edge slightly foxed, the top edge age-toned, otherwise extremely clean internally, green cloth in very good condition. From the library of the botanist William T. Stearn, with his bookplate and signature on the front endpapers. Very heavy - extra postage will be required. [Cavanilles [1745 - 1804] was a leading Spanish taxonomic botanist of the 18th century. He named many plants, particularly from Oceania. He named at least 100 genera, about 54 of which were still used in 2004, including Dahlia, Calycera, Cobaea, Galphimia, and Oleandra; he was one of the first Spanish scientists to use the Linnean classification. . Cloth. Very Good.
