Tabriz, 1850. The ornaments, decorations, ornamented chapter titles, marginal indexes and notes, and illuminations are all made by hand, as well as some manuscript pages in the text that later replaced lithograph pages. The lithography is Persian Naskh, in the hand of Abd al-Rahim [bin Muhammad Taqi] Tabrizi, one of the most famous calligraphers of Naskh script of his time. Lacquer rose covers and pastedown is again a lacquer that contains a Narcissus. The book is about Very Good, the lacquer rubbed and chipped, edges rubbed, several pages darkened. With original leather carrying bag lined with blue silk, Very Good, rubbed at edges. With manuscript writing at end pages and in margins of text. The first page is a ms. waqf deed dated 1852 and signed 1931. Double-page frontispiece illumination( in Persian 'sarlawh muzdawaj'). Colophon translates as follows: "Abd al-Ra?im [bin Mu?ammad Taqi] Tabrizi, the servant whose poverty leads him to the Mercy of his Lord, on 27th of Jumadi al-Awwal, 1266 [Wednesday, April 10th, 1850]from the Hijrah of the Prophet-Peace be Upon Him and His Family- was honored to conclude[ the copying of] this Magnificent Book, revealed by the Almighty, the Praised, the Greatest is His Majesty. In the [lithography] factory of the modest servant [of Allah] ?Abd Allah Tabrizi by the fruitful efforts and consultations of brother-his highness- Allah Virdi, this book was published. Father Germanus [1585-1670] succeded Obicini as Lector of Arabic and as a collaborator on the Arabic Bible project. He later stayed for a time in Persia and ended his life as a scholar in Madrid. There he left his manuscript of an unfinished Qur'an translation and grammaqtical treatises of Persian and Turkish. The Propaganda Press was founded in 1622 and in 1626 a true printing house was established together with a foundry named after the Congregatio.
