Superb Ottoman presentation binding, executed in red full leather, richly gilt and decorated, featuring the tuğra and nişan (state arms) of Sultan ʿAbdülhamid II. Complete Ottoman-style bindings with envelope flaps (mıklep). All edges of both volumes gilt.
Prepared by private commission in Cairo, incorporating highly significant official material:– A panegyrical text in praise of the Shaykh al-Islam, bearing his original seal– The official report of the commission– A formal charitable endowment (waqf), impressed with the tuğraic seal of Sultan ʿAbdülhamid II

An incredibly rare and impressive Elzevier printing of Joannes de Laet's "Persia", written to aid in his direction of the Dutch West Indian Company. This work was one of the best books describing Middle Eastern, and Arab, and Islamic history. Laet covers all expected topics of Persian history – topography, geography, religious customs, government and politics, etc. It also includes 17th-century descriptions of Middle Eastern cities such as Baghdad, Damascus, and Mecca. This 1633 first edition includes eight full-page engravings of Persian dress.

This book contains a scholarly study on an original copy of the Holy Quran attributed to the time of Caliph Othman: the copy known as the "Othman (R.A.) Altıkulaç, a specialist of Quranic studies, has done a meticulous comparative study and technical analysis of the copy; the Introduction explains the method followed and the findings obtained. Francois Auguier de Marigny's "Histoire des Arabes" is one of the best and most thorough histories of the Muslim caliphs following the Muhammed. From the 6th-century on, caliphs were the leaders of the Islamic world, a position which was recognized into the 20th-century. In 750, the Abbasid Revolution overthrew the Umayyad's and the Abbasid Dynasty established a new line of caliph leadership, a line which would have the longest tenure of reign and ruled powerfully over much of the known world.
Marigny's "Arabes" covers the reigns of the earliest caliphs through the death of Al-Musta'sim in 1258. This impressive four-volume first edition was published in 1750 Paris.

No Publisher Book. Very Good. Full-Leather. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. A fine 19th century Quran in intricately gilt-tooled wrap-around leather binding, all edges gilt, in printed Naskh script with a beautiful illuminated conjugated lawh that is reminiscent of fine Persian carpet. The text bordered in wide gilt rule, with black, red and gilt in the text. Very Good, the covers worn at the edges and with rear cover detached. An unusual Quran for its Victorian binding. Publisher, date, and place of publication not readily apparent, but perhaps to be found in the text. The Quran (Qur'an) is the foundational religious text of Islam and the finest work in classical Arabic literature. .

A rare, 18th-century printing of the Quran in French. This highly desirable Islamic text was translated by Andre du Ryer, known for his accuracy in French translations. Du Ryer translated this work out of the Arabic into French; however, it was not well-received by the Catholic Church. In fact, Catholic priest Vincent de Paul prohibited the distribution of this work – the first French Quran to be banned when it was originally published!
This highly desirable and valuable French Quran features genealogical tables of Islamic sects and an impressive folding illustration of the Temple (Great Mosque) at Mecca.
