Introduction by Richard Pipes (Harvard scholar, author of Russia under the Old Regime). Brandes, a famous Danish literary critic, had visited Russia in 1887 as the guest of a writers' society. Divided into nine chapters on Russian society and culture, seven on Russian writers including Pushkin, Gogol and the Ukrainian influence, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Turgenev. ToC provides a precis of what's in each chapter. Trade paperback, moderate shelf wear and rubbing to wraps, university bookshop stamp on fore-edge, binding tight, pages unmarked.

Shipping charge may be reduced on some books weighing less than 1 lb to U.S. addresses. International Priority shipping charges may be reduced on books that fit in a USPS small flat-rate box. International Standard (First-Class Package International) shipping charges may be reduced for a second or more books if the total package weight does not exceed 2 lb.
