Concerns Sarah Worth, a latterday Hester Prynne who has become enamored of a Hindu religious leader called the Arhat. A collectable set of the first printing and uncorrected proof. The book is in very fine condition. Inscribed to noted bibliophile and Updike collector Albert Raman; "For Albert Raman best wishes John Updike". Dust jacket is also very fine with no issues, unclipped. Now with archival cover for protection. A fine uncorrected proof, with some dust staining on the spine, also with archival cover. Tight and unread with a flier from Knopf laid in. Collectable set. Provenance, from the Library of notable bibliophile and Updike collector Albert J Raman. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 279 pages; Signed by Author .
Synopsis
John Updike was born in Shillington, Pennsylvania, in 1932. He graduated from Harvard College in 1954 and spent a year in Oxford, England, at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art. From 1955 to 1957 he was a member of the staff of The New Yorker . His novels have won the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Rosenthal Foundation Award, and the William Dean Howells Medal. In 2007 he received the Gold Medal for Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. John Updike died in January 2009.
